Growing up, my dad would always say: true humility is knowing who you are before God, no more, no less.

This is the posture of a soul with God — not groveling, not bringing my list of qualifications. Just standing as I am, seen.

Last October, I wrote the lists below in my journal. They were meant to anchor me, to keep me from swinging too far in either direction: pride (believing I am more than God says I am) or fear (believing I am less). Both are distortions. Both make it impossible to rest in God’s favor.

To live in truth, I need both lists held together. To be fully seen in my weakness and still spoken over with love: This is my beloved daughter, on whom my favor rests.
