what’s up with that title?

The name of this digital garden comes from a book I read in 2022. The protagonist, a native woman, is hiding in the woods and she sees something.

From the corner of my eye, I noted movement in the driveway ahead of me and shifted my gaze to see the ochre-and-brown shell of a woodland box turtle moving across the blue stone in the driveway. He was highly visible because he was out of place. Was this my Creator’s answer to my call for help?

Turtle medicine: home on earth, longevity, perseverance, and protection.

This happens many other times in the book — the medicine of the owl, of the cat, etc. She sees them and hears God speak. “My Creator’s answer.”

I’m coming to believe that God is always speaking. When we learn to recognize His voice, He can speak to us through literally anything.

It takes slowing down, allowing for transitions, allowing for stillness. It takes going through our days with our eyes open. When I do this, the world comes alive around me!

I will see something interesting and ask, “Is this You? What do you want me to know?” Sometimes He speaks and sometimes He simply helps me notice further and gives me the gift of delight.

These notes are where I will chronicle my journey of noticing and the things I will ask and learn along the way.

what’s a digital garden?

It’s similar to a blog, but with a different focus. This description summarizes several articles on the topic:

A blog presents polished, time-ordered posts meant for public consumption, while a digital garden is a non-linear, evolving collection of interconnected notes that grow and change over time. Blogs prioritize finished thoughts; digital gardens prioritize ongoing exploration.

Thank goodness I discovered this because if a blog was my only option, this never would have happened.

And since I’ve started writing here, it feels like a pressure valve has been released in my brain. I’ve always written, but there’s something about writing for others that helps consolidate and clarify my thoughts.
